Ghana's Waste Crisis: A Call to Action.
Ghana generates approximately 12,710 tons of waste daily, with 60-65% ending up in open dumps. This contributes to air pollution, groundwater contamination, and affects the reliable supply of secondary raw materials for production. Only 6.6% is recycled.
Indiscriminate waste disposal leads to significant health and economic costs, including 60% of diseases linked to environmental pollution, 19,000 annual deaths from diarrhea, and an estimated USD 2.3 billion cost from CO2 emissions.
